In the early years of the Guild, visits to members’ theatres, puppet collections, and workshops were a regular and much‑valued activity. This photograph was taken during a Guild trip to Birmingham to view the large model theatre owned by member Cecil Brinton, who operated a carpet factory in Kidderminster, a business that continues to this day.
The image includes several prominent Guild figures of the period, among them Seymour Marks, Harry Whanslaw, Harold Munroe and Waldo Lanchester, alongside many other active members. It offers a snapshot of the Guild’s early culture of shared learning, camaraderie and collective enthusiasm for the art of Model and Toy Theatre.
