32. Pamphlet The BPMTG at The George Inn, Oct – Dec Season 1935

Artist / Maker: N/A
Object Details:

In 1935 the opportunity arose for the Guild to move into a room in one of London’s most historic buildings; The George Inn, Southwark. This came about when Leslie Staples, a friend of Guild secretary Seymour Marks, signed a three year lease of The George, and after discussions with the committee it was agreed to take on a room on the second floor as a headquarters. The room was officially opened on Nov 22nd 1935 and proved to be one of the Guild’s most successful premises with many evening meetings and events held there. One of the most memorable being an exhibition of Toy Theatre sheets and a celebration of Benjamin Pollock for his 80th birthday. Unfortunately, the Guild’s residency at the George Inn proved short‑lived. After only a few months, the building was declared unsafe, and the Guild was required to vacate the premises, bringing an abrupt end to what had promised to be an important centre for its activities.
