40. BPMTG Technical Leaflet by Ted Beresford

Artist / Maker: N/A
Object Details:

In 1945, the Guild introduced its ‘Tricks of the Trade’ articles, which continued into the early issues of Puppet Master. Contributors included John Carr, Hugh Thorne, and many other members, though particularly memorable were the pieces written by Harry Tozer, accompanied by Len Walker’s detailed diagrams. Over several years, these articles offered members practical guidance on everything from improving the stringing of a marionette’s shoulders to constructing a pair of performing seals.

From the late 1970s onwards, technical sheets became a regular feature in the Guild’s monthly newsletters. The example shown here, outlining the construction of a tabletop puppet, was created by member Ted Beresford. Ted and his wife Kath were central figures within the Guild, known for their encouragement of members young and old through their many workshops and their much‑loved ‘soup days’ held at their home.
