With the onset of the Second World War—and the growing realisation that the conflict would not be short‑lived, the Guild recognised that storing all of its records and materials in London was unwise, given the city’s status as a primary target for bombing. In 1940, it was therefore decided to relocate the organisation’s holdings to Malvern in Worcestershire, to the home of Waldo Lanchester. This move ensured the Guild’s archives and artefacts were safeguarded during the war years.
